IGP Côtes Catalanes: Domaine Ferrer-Ribière 'Empreinte du Temps' Carignan 2016

"The 2016 Empreinte du Temps Carignan comes from 139-year-old vines. The fruit was given a full carbonic maceration, then aged in egg-shaped flexitank for a year prior to bottling. It boasts intense, piney-resinous notes reminiscent of juniper but also layers of rich purple fruit. Full-bodied and creamy in texture, enjoy this wine's supple tannins and lingering finish over the next 5 years. 90/100, drink 2018-2022."

Tasting Notes
This vibrant, fresh Catalan Carignan hails from a precious parcel of 135+ year old pre-phylloxera vines. Here at Yapp HQ it's a firm favourite that delivers consistently in every vintage. Like the white Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes Grenache Blanc from Domaine Ferrer-Ribière, this wine too is well-suited to simple, rustic cuisine – some sizzling Toulouse sausages or cassoulet would fit the bill nicely.

An excellent Vin de Pays Catalan Carignan, with a beguiling bouquet of wild berries and herbs and a medley of sun-kissed Mediterranean flavours, supported by a couch of supple tannins.
