Tasting Notes

Exuberantly aromatic nose of ripe black cherry and blackberry fruit with notes of cedar and sweet cinnamon and clove spice. Elegant and complex with an intense, ripe finish. Good acidity makes it an ideal match for blue cheese, aged hard cheese or chocolate.

Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) is a high quality Port from a single year. Unlike Vintage Port (which does most of its maturing in bottle), LBV is aged in wood for 4-6 years and is ready to drink on release. The wines used to produce Fonseca LBV were drawn from a reserve of some of the best full-bodied red Ports produced at the 2012 harvest, from grapes grown on Fonseca’s own vineyards and on other top properties in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior areas of the Douro. LBV Unfiltered is aged in large wooden vats and then drawn off into bottle with no fining or filtration. A limited quantity was produced from a blend of Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cao, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional.

Vintage 2012
Cellarage A very versatile wine that will improve in bottle for 5-10 years after vintage.
Vinification Pressed, fermented after hand-picking then matured in oak vats of 50 pipes (534 litres) for 4-6 years. Bottled with no fining or filtration to ensure some continuing ageing bottle without removing flavor. As the wine is not filtered, some little sediment may form in colder temperatures. This is completely natural and can be minimized by standing the bottle upright for 24-48 hours and either pouring gently or decanting if preferred.
