Duché d'Uzès: Domaine Camp Galhan 'Les Pérassières' 2015

A proper chest-thumping, heart-warming country red wine from Uzès, with swags of herb-infused garrigue berry flavours over a structure of earthy tannins. Made from a traditional blend of Grenache Noir and Syrah, this wine is a fine accompaniment to a 'poulet fermier' served with wild mushrooms.

Tasting Notes
Lionel Pourquier's Duché d'Uzès red is made at his base in Ribaute-les-Tavernes, 6 kilometres due south of Alès, on the edge of the Cévennes.

Lionel is an up-and-coming 'Vigneron Independent' who left the relative security of the local 'coopérative' at Ribauté-les-Tavernes in the year 2000 in order to go it alone. Lionel's wines have already graced the pages of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and amply illustrate the value that can still be found in France's lesser-known viticultural backwaters.

Lionel Pourquier

Lionel is a former co-opérateur who now farms his own vines at Ribauté les Tavernes on the eastern edge of the Cévennes just south of Alès. One of only 2 independent producers among a total of 30 winemakers in the district, Lionel Pourquier bottles his wines as Vin de Pays (d’Oc, Duché d’Uzès or Cévennes) according to the exact location of the vines and the grapes deployed in each blend. The emphasis at Domaine Camp Galhan is on rich, spicy, full-bodied reds that, in Lionel’s own words, have “un bon rapport qualité/prix”.
