Bordeaux: Lalande de Pomerol 'La Chenade' 2014
"The 2014 La Chenade, a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, has a straightforward but appealing bouquet with ample dark cherries, bergamot tea and a touch of dried flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with a tightly-knit structure. I appreciate the depth here, the focus and finesse, a wine that threatened to blossom in bottle... and it has. Given the market prices for this Lalande-de-Pomerol, Denis Durantou's 2014 comes highly recommended." 91/100.

Denis Durantou owns and makes the highly rated Pomerol L'Eglise Clinet. He also has a 25 acre property in the satellite appellation of Lalande de Pomerol. From these vineyards, less than 1km from the famous plateau of Pomerol, he produces 'Les Cruzelles' and 'La Chenade', the latter from younger vines.
The wine has classic pencil shaving and black, berry scents and a well-structured, mid-weight palate with a core of dark Autumnal fruit over a background of ripe tannins.
